The study of disease commenced with the dawn of intellect. The cave man surely resorted to the plant kingdom as his therapeutical agents and remedial measures. There is no record available for the medicines used by primitive man. The knowledge of medicinal plants must have been accumulated over centuries. The ancient peoples of India were acquainted with medicinal herbs to a larger extent than the natives of any other country. The Indian materia medica consists of the Raja Nighantu, the Madanapala Nighantu and the Bhava Prakasha. This work studies all the available India herbs and medicinal plants scientifically, and explains their uses. Also, a disease wise break up is given. The book is a must for any serious student of medicine, allopathic or ayurvedic.

Jainendra Siddhant Kosh (In 5 Parts) (Hindi)
BHARATIYA GYANPITH
By Jinendra Varni
Price: Rs. 750.00
Review: This is one of the most incredible works in the world of Jainism and Indology. This is the only Encyclopaedia of its kind in Hindi and certainly the most comprehensive and exhaustive delving into the ancient concepts and ideas of Jainism. The author has taken great pains to present the concepts in a lucid way. He has covered Jain philosophy, code of conduct, laws of Karma, Jain geography, Jain mythology, Jain history, and lives of the sixty-three great historical men (the Trishashthi Shalaka Purush) , the great Jain preceptors of the past, the sects, the preachers and the reformers of Jainism are all present here. More than six thousand words have been explained in depth. The most important reason why I rate this Encyclopaedia so highly is that the author devoted his entire life towards this task and studied more than a hundred tomes of Jain literature in Sanskrit, Prakrit and Apabhransha, besides countless books in Hindi. He has used the research to make the book as comprehensive and as precise as possible, and has also used the extracts of these tomes along with their Hindi translations to further illustrate his concepts, with reference to any given context.
